Billionaire's fatal plane crash highlights risky African airlines

Lessons aplenty after entire directorate of ASX-listed Sundance lost in Congo.

MOOI RIVER - Corporate travel policies are sure to be dusted off after Tuesday's confirmation that there were no survivors from a small plane crash near the border of Cameroon and Congo Brazzaville in Central Africa. Among the 11 aboard the flight were six board members of Sundance Resources, an Australian mining exploration business whose ASX-listed shares are worth a combined US$308m (R2.3bn).

The crash is making global headlines because among the dead is 59-year Australian mining billionaire Ken Talbot, one of three Sundance non executive directors who shared with flight with the company's chairman, its CEO, the company secretary and an executive from Dynamiq, a mining consultancy.

Inflation in the UK is now running almost doub...

DAVOS - Dear Mr Gates. Thank you for the inspiration you provided in your annual letter - http://bit.ly/5rZats - and for drawing attention to it through the note I received today as a participant at the 2010 World Economic Forum. Many of us are looking forward to hearing more from you in Davos this week. Especially how innovation reaps massive rewards when applied to improving the human condition.

Given your reference to male circumcision, and the stat you provided that 18% of South Africans are HIV-positive, you may be interested to hear that there is excellent progress being made among the Zulu nation. Please forgive me if I'm repeating something you're well aware of already, but I was fascinated t...
